Jerusalem is the largest city in Israel, space-wise, today covering a municipal area of 125 square kilometers. This compares to 52 sq. km. for municipal Tel Aviv-Jaffa and 69 sq. km. for Haifa – and some 39 sq. km. for Athens, 110 sq. km. for Washington, DC, and 790 sq. km. for New York.
In 1967, Jerusalem comprised 38 sq. km., growing to 108 sq. km. after the Six Day War, and it has been expanding since.
