Leading Israel into a sustainable future
This edition of JIIS Bulletin is dedicated to our major project, “Sustainability Outlook 2030 for Israel.” The first stage of the project was concluded recently with a string of recommendations on how to prepare Israel for a sound and sustainable future.

Thinking ahead
The whole of Outlook 2030 was designed a priori to offer something new in Israel. The team members developed indexes and built a range of possible scenarios, created a realistic vision, and formulated policy packages. In the course of their work, they identified a series of robust, long-term strategies that can facilitate the realization of the 2030 vision.

A range of future scenarios
Combining their many areas of expertise, the Outlook team set to the task of building scenarios that reflect a range of future situations in a context of high uncertainty. The scenarios, they note, may or may not materialize, but by putting different options on the table they have opened a dialogue on topics that have hitherto been largely ignored.

Wrapping policy in packages
Policy today is usually formulated only in response to an immediate or current situation or crisis; that is, the search is usually for fixes with instant results to solve, rather than prevent problems or realize opportunities. Outlook 2030 is trying to turn that concept on its head: an integrated approach capable of generating long-term transformation is not the norm today but is exactly the tack needed to look out for the future.
