Striving for a Just Peace: Remembering Prof. Yaacov Bar-Siman-Tov
Friends, family and colleagues of “Barsi” – the late Prof. Yaacov Bar-Siman-Tov, who was head of the Institute from 2003 to 2013 – met at the JIIS this month to discuss the topic of "Justice and Peace in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict" – which was a topic close to his heart and the title of his final book.

JIIS launches new “Urban Sustainability” project

Shas enters a new era without its leader
The JIIS’ new Center for the Study of the Haredi [Ultra-Orthodox] Society announced its arrival with a seminar on The Shas Movement and the Haredi-Sephardi Community at the End of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's Era. Rabbi Yosef, the founder and dominant leader of Shas, the Sephardi ultra-orthodox political and movement, died last October.

Talking divorce in the haredi sector
The JIIS forum on haredi research recently met to discuss the issue of divorce within the ultra-orthodox sector. Not only is divorce frowned upon in this sector, but being such a closed community there has hitherto been little option for broader discussion, or advice seeking, on the subject.
